BALTIMORE — Lawyers defending Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez, the man accused of killing Rachel Morin, rested their case after calling one witness, Megan Waltimyer — the digital forensic scientist who rebuilt Morin’s phone.

Waltimyer is on recall as she testified earlier in the case for the prosecution.

The defense questioned Waltimyer about the recent Safari internet searches on Morin’s phone. There were six queries typed into her phone; a time and day were not given.

Two of the queries were “how to tell if my partner’s relationship status is hidden from others on Facebook” and “If I hide my relationship status on Facebook, will others see it.”This is after Morin and her boyfriend, Richard Tobin, made their relationship “Facebook official” days before she was killed.

Closing arguments in the case are about to begin.

Martinez-Hernandez, a Salvadorian native who illegally entered the United States in 2023, is charged with first-degree pre-meditated murder, first-degree felony murder, second-degree murder, first-degree rape, second-degree rape, third-degree sex offense and kidnapping.

He declined to testify on his own behalf Monday morning.

Prosecutors rested their case last week following eight days of testimony.

A verdict could come later today.
