Arsonist tried to set fire to Chicago City Hall, Mayor Brandon Johnson says

CHICAGO — An arsonist attempted to start a fire at City Hall late Friday night, Mayor Brandon Johnson said Monday.
The fire outside the building did not spread beyond the initial flame, and the person who started it was not identified before fleeing, the mayor told reporters during an unrelated news conference.
Johnson said the arson attempt occurred at 11 p.m. and was recorded in surveillance camera footage.
“It goes without saying that this type of violence has no place in our politics,” he said. “While we may have strong disagreements on various issues, there is never any acceptable use of violence in a democracy.”
Police confirmed Monday that no arrests were made and no injuries were reported during the fire. The blaze went out on its own after causing slight damage to the outside of the building, police said.
