Man shoots himself in Midtown subway station, tells cops he was shot, gets busted: NYPD
Published in News & Features
A man was arrested for sending police on a wild goose chase by claiming he was shot inside a Manhattan subway station — only for investigators to determine his wound was self-inflicted, cops said Monday.
The suspect ventured into an off-limits section of the 57th St. station near Sixth Ave. in Midtown, where he shot himself in the chest following an argument with a family member around 10:13 p.m. Sunday, cops said.
Officers responding to the gunfire found the suspect nursing his wound on the street above the station, where he told police he was the victim of a shooting, said police.
Medics rushed the suspect to Mount Sinai West for treatment, where his story broke down under further questioning, a law enforcement source told the Daily News.
Gary Grinshtein, 27, was arrested and charged with false reporting, criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment and criminal trespass, cops said.
A weapon was recovered from the scene, said police.
