Political consultant asked Jeffrey Epstein for a job claiming he helped Maura Healey get elected as Massachusetts AG

BOSTON — A former political adviser who claims he helped Gov. Maura Healey win her election as state attorney general pitched himself for a job with Jeffrey Epstein in 2019 to help with the pedophile’s burgeoning bad press, according to the latest DOJ files.
James P. McGee sent an email to Epstein, asking for a consulting job and showing sympathy for the serial rapist found to have assaulted hundreds of women, many underage, in a worldwide sex trafficking ring for years, according to those records.
“I still get all the News Emailed sent up to me here in Boston, so first of all: I am Sorry for all of the Negative Media Coverage, that the Daily News (and other Media Outlets) have decided to throw your way lately. Particularly with the sordid stories coming out of Palm Beach County Today!! (No Irony There, Huh!!). I Hope you are holding up OK!!” McGee wrote to Epstein on Feb. 23, 2019, the DOJ files show.
“I am sure you have several Professionals (particularly on the Legal Side) handling things, but if you feel you needed any Advice, or if you felt that my particular Skill Set, or more importantly my Way of Thinking/Strategizing through things, could be of help to you with anything — Please do not hesitate to let me know immediately!!!” McGee wrote.
McGee went on in the letter to highlight his career accomplishments, including bragging about helping several Democratic politicians from across the country get elected, including “the 1st Openly Gay (Lesbian) Attorney General in the United States with Maura Healey,” and other top Massachusetts politicians.
“That is not to say that I am completely walking away from Politics, I mean after all: I elected the 15t Openly Gay (Lesbian) Attorney General in the United States with Maura Healey (MA), and I continue to be her Senior Political Advisor and she is probably running for Massachusetts Governor in 2022,” McGee wrote to Epstein. “I also continue to advise most of the Massachusetts House Leadership Team, including the Chairman of Ways and Means, who sets the $40 Billion Dollar Budget here in Massachusetts, as well as the House Majority Leader, Chairman of Elections, Chairman of Redistricting, etc. to name a few, so to not stay involved in Politics would just be dumb on my part, so I won’t go that far.”
In a statement sent to the Boston Herald, Healey’s reelection committee condemned McGee’s email enabling Epstein, adding that McGee never directly worked with Healey.
“Governor Healey thinks the actions of Jeffrey Epstein and everyone who enabled him are absolutely disgusting and abhorrent. The Healey Committee employed a different member of this individual’s firm more than a decade ago and has no relationship with them now,” said a spokesperson for Healey’s 2026 reelection campaign. “It is unacceptable for anyone to misrepresent their connection with her to try to win the business of a known child sex predator.“
McGee went on to discuss other elections he had been a part of, and apparently coordinated with Epstein on, including the 2018 U.S. Virgin Islands gubernatorial election, where the two “discussed privately” the election. He also shared his distaste for Virgin Island politics and his perception of a shared “intellect” with Epstein.
“But, to be truthful, I had already had enough of the Virgin Islands Politically anyway by that point — They Eat Their Own Down There (But, I don’t have to tell you this!!) And, frankly after 12 Long Years, that got Pretty Old,” said McGee. “As an individual with a similar intellect (My guess, in your case, a somewhat slightly higher intellect), I believe that you also can relate when I say, that sometimes you also just get bored (regardless of how good you are at doing something), which is why I was looking to change.”
McGee also highlighted his academic achievements to Epstein, including his degree in civil engineering with a minor in mathematics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and compared his work ethic to Epstein’s, noting that they both “like to keep busy.”
“You are probably not aware of this, but I graduated, what would now be considered a small lifetime ago, with a Degree in Civil Engineering and Minor in Mathematics from the University of Massachusetts, College of Engineering, at Amherst before doing a 180 Degree turn with my career, by entering into the world of elected politics,” McGee wrote.
“In addition to the creation of several of my own companies, which included a Campaign Election, Policy, and Strategic Consulting Company, a Campaign and Constituency Data Software Design Company, and a Public Relations and Strategic Media Advisory Company. I guess that, like you, I prefer to keep busy,” he wrote before sharing his love of science and the universe with Epstein.
Reports from the Office of Campaign and Political Finance show expenditures made to McGee’s firm New Grange Consulting Group, as far back as 2014. Healey’s campaign would pay McGee’s firm, which he was listed as the president and CEO of, roughly $3,000 per month for consulting services.
Efforts to reach McGee by phone and email were unsuccessful, and the website domain address for New Grange Consulting Group states “it may be for sale.” There are no allegations of wrongdoing against McGee or anybody in his firm.
Epstein responded to McGee’s email on Feb. 23, 2019, saying he would consider his offer.
“ill give it some thought. i do not know the individual that you are referring to. as you know I stayed away,” Epstein wrote back. It is not clear who the “individual” Epstein is referring to.
To end the conversation, McGee again showed sympathy for the child sex predator, saying he hopes “you’re holding up OK.”
“I left Names out of it because nothing is ever really gained throwing Negativity at other People. Anyway, as I said in the Email. I know you have an awful lot going on right now and hope you’re holding up OK,” said McGee. “If something should pop into your mind where you think I could be of help just let me know.”
It is unclear whether Epstein ever hired McGee following their email exchange.
