Billy Joel's ex Christie Brinkley speaks out after his brain disorder diagnosis
Published in Entertainment News
Christie Brinkley is thinking of her ex Billy Joel during this time.
After Joel announced the cancellation of his tour following a brain disorder diagnosis, Brinkley, who was married to Joel from 1985 to 1994, took to Instagram to share some kind words.
Brinkley and Joel share one child together, a daughter, Alexa Ray Joel, 39.
“Dear Billy,” Brinkley wrote alongside a video of herself and her youngest daughter, Sailor Brinkley Cook, at a Billy Joel concert.
“The whole Brinkley gang is sending you lots of love and good wishes for a full and speedy recovery,” Brinkley continued. “I was looking for some cute photos of you and Alexa to send you, when I came across this clip from a recent concert.”
Brinkley said the video made her laugh, “but it also reminded me of all the joy you create, and all the sensational sing-a-longs you’ve lead. You turn an arena of strangers into a living room full of friends as we all sway in unison .. I’m sure I’m speaking for everyone in that room when I say please take good care of yourself, we all want you back in that white hot spotlight. You’re OUR piano man.”
“And we’re always in the mood for your melodies. And we all hope you’re feeling alright,” Brinkley concluded her post. “We Love You, the kids, me and an arena or two!”
Fans were thrilled with the note Brinkley shared.
“Crying,” one comment read. “You are such a class act, and yes ... his music is a gift to the world and we all pray for a full recovery.”
“Awww … that’s extended family love,” another fans wrote. “Billy Joel is some kinda of special.”
“I love and respect this family so much …what beautiful people you all are! And sending all the best energy to an American treasure,” shared another comment.
“This is beautiful!! Sending Billy love and healing thoughts and prayers.”
Joel announced he was canceling the remainder of his upcoming shows on Friday, May 23. Joel shared that he was recently diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus, or NPH.
According to the Alzheimer’s Association, normal pressure hydrocephalus “is a brain disorder in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain’s ventricles, which are fluid-filled chambers.”
In a statement he shared on Instagram, Joel wrote that he is “sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding.”
“This condition has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision, and balance,” the statement explained.
“Under his doctor’s instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period,” the statement continues. “Billy is thankful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritizing his health.”
