NEW YORK — Sir Kenneth Branagh is confirmed to join original stars Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci and Emily Blunt in the much anticipated sequel to “The Devil Wears Prada.”

The Oscar-winning actor and filmmaker will reportedly portray the husband of Streep’s diabolical fashion magazine maven Miranda Priestly. Streep immortalized the role, loosely inspired by Vogue magazine’s Anna Wintour, in the 2006 blockbuster.

The movie is based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 bestseller, which spun off a sequel novel, “Revenge Wears Prada,” ten years later. The author worked at Vogue for less than a year beginning in 1999.

The new project, in development for over a year, is now in production according to an 20th Century Studios announcement on Instagram with a teaser featuring lines from the original film.

Directed again by David Frankel, “The Devil Wears Prada 2” — set for release next year — will reportedly see Priestly experiencing the cratering of the magazine business, and now forced to build bridges with her one-time assistant who is the head of a luxury brand and its advertising budget.

“The Devil Wears Prada 2” will be Streep’s first film role since 2021’s “Don’t Look Up.” The three-time Oscar winner, who garnered a 2007 Golden Globe for her role as Priestley, currently stars in the Hulu mystery series “Only Murder in The Building, alongside rumored love interest Martin Short, Steve Martin and Selena Gomez.

Branagh was last seen on the big screen in 2023’s “A Haunting in Venice,” which he also directed and produced. The 64-year-old Irish star directed and starred in the titular role of “King Lear” at The Shed late last year.
