Is Coyote Joe's in Netflix's 'The Hunting Wives' a real place?

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Maple Brook, Texas — the fictional setting of Netflix’s new drama series “The Hunting Wives” — may be a town filled with secrets. but it’s also home to a local hangout that’s caught viewers’ attention: Coyote Joe’s.
While the bar plays as the place for the main characters’ social outing, it’s actually a real-life venue in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The show follows Sophie, who moves to the small East Texas town and becomes entangled in the secrets and scandals of a local group of wives. The first episode introduces Coyote Joe’s as the spot where Sophie spends her first night out and joins the wives for their group outing. In the scene, the characters dance, drink and socialize with locals.
Is Coyote Joe’s a real place?
Yes, the honky-tonk bar depicted in the show is based on a real bar in Charlotte. Fans of the bar will recognize its signature wooden interior, neon signs and spacious dance floor to enjoy live music.
“We were shooting in Charlotte, North Carolina, and there happens to be this incredible honky-tonk bar called ... Coyote Joe’s,” Malin Akerman (who plays Margo Banks on the show) said on “Live with Kelly and Mark.”
“We actually shot a scene there as well for the show, but once we discovered it, we were there every single weekend, going, you know, two-stepping with all the cowboys. It was a blast.”
Coyote Joe’s is located at 4621 Wilkinson Blvd. in Charlotte. The venue hosts weekly events, including live concerts, ladies’ nights and line dance lessons.
Filming locations in ‘The Hunting Wives’
While “The Hunting Wives” is set in Maple Brook, Texas, much of the series was filmed in North Carolina.
Production took place during the early spring of 2024, The Charlotte Observer previously reported. Filming locations spanned Charlotte, Mooresville, Lake Norman and Richfield.
The full eight-episode season of “The Hunting Wives” is now streaming on Netflix.
