Jack White-scored 'Motor City' to premiere at Toronto Film Festival

The Detroit-set action-thriller "Motor City" — which features a score by Jack White — is headed to Toronto.
The film, which stars Ben Foster, Shailene Woodley and "Reacher's" Alan Ritchson, will make its North American premiere at next month's Toronto International Film Festival, programmers announced Tuesday. It will make its world premiere bow later this month at the Venice International Film Festival.
"Motor City" was shot in New Jersey in 2024 but takes place in Detroit in the 1970s. A TIFF description calls the movie "a cinematic symphony of muscle cars, gunfire, and heartbreak."
Ritchson plays an auto worker who is sent to prison after being framed by a gangster (Foster). Upon his release, he seeks out revenge in a big way.
White, the film's musical director, created its score, and the movie reportedly leaves lots of room for him to noodle: "Motor City" has just four lines of dialogue, according to director Potsy Ponciroli ("Old Henry").
The "Motor City" script dates back to 2009, and at an earlier stage native Detroiter Albert Hughes was reportedly attached to direct.
Also making its world premiere at TIFF is "Carolina Caroline," from writer-director (and Michigan resident) Adam Carter Rehmeier, whose Metro Detroit-shot 2020 comedy "Dinner In America" is a late-blossoming cult hit. "Carolina Caroline" is a road movie about a bank robber starring Samara Weaving and "Dinner in America's" Kyle Gallner.
The Toronto International Film Festival runs Sept. 4-14.
