SAN DIEGO — San Diego-bred singer-turned-Oscar-nominated actress Andra Day has been added to the lineup for select dates on multiple Grammy Award-winner Jon Batiste’s “The Big Money: Jon Batiste Plays America” concert tour. Day and her band will perform at 24 of the 33 dates on the tour, it was announced this week, including in San Diego on Sept. 21 at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park.
Day, who grew up in San Diego, duets with Batiste on “Lean On My Love,” an inspirational song about fortitude and resilience from Batiste’s 2025 album, “Big Money.” The black-and-white video for the song was filmed in fire-scarred Los Angeles County community of Altadena and in the area’s Victory church, which counts Day as one of its parishioners.
A 2003 graduate of the San Diego School of Performing & Creative Arts, Day shared in a 2022 Grammy Award win in the Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media category for “The United States vs. Billie Holiday.” She earned an Oscar nomination for portraying blues and jazz vocal legend Holiday in the 2021 film, “The United States vs. Billie Holiday.” It was her big-screen debut as an actress.
Day’s 2022 Grammy victory was the same year Batiste earned five Grammy wins, including Album of the Year, for “We Are.” Day’s most recent album, last year’s “Cassandra (cherith), was this critic’s pick for the best album of 2024.
Batiste’s tour opened Aug. 27 in Kansas City, Missouri. Day’s first date on the tour is Sept. 4 in Colorado at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, near Denver. Actress and singer-songwriter Diana Silvers will be the opening act for all the dates on the tour.
Tickets are on sale for all dates on “The Big Money” tour. Tickets for the San Diego concert at The Shell are available at ticketmaster.com and are priced from $39.50 to $149.50. VIP ticket packages cost $376 each.
