Oscar Isaac is "not so open to working with Disney" on a Star Wars return right now.

The 46-year-old actor - who played X-wing fighter pilot Poe Dameron in the space saga's sequel trilogy between 2015 and 2019 - has opened up on his stance about making a comeback in a galaxy far, far away, having previously joked he would only return if he "needed another house".

Now, he told GQ magazine: "That was a real likable quote. Jesus Christ.

"Y'know, people ask you things, you say stuff, you don't really think about it that much. I said a slightly d***ish thing."

Isaac admitted while he's "open to it" now, ABC and Disney's actions around Jimmy Kimmel Live! had him second guessing.

he said: "I mean, I'd be open to it, although right now I'm not so open to working with Disney.

"But if they can kinda figure it out and, you know, not succumb to fascism, that would be great."

The newly published interview was conducted two days after Kimmel's show was taken off air following comments the host made about the death of Charlie Kirk.

Isaac added: "But if that happens, then yeah, I'd be open to having a conversation about a galaxy far away. Or any number of other things."

Four days after the conversation with GQ, the programme was back on air.

Meanwhile, Isaac's latest role is in Guillermo del Toro's new Frankenstein film for Netflix, which is based on Mary Shelley's 1818 Gothic novel of the same name.

He plays Dr. Victor Frankenstein, the scientist who creates a living creature from multiple human body parts, and his interpretation of the character has partly been inspired by late Purple Rain singer Prince.

He told Variety: "I saw him much more as an artist than as a scientist. I watched a video of Prince going to the Super Bowl in order to rehearse.

"And I just basically stole his walk when he's going up to the stage with his hands behind the back."

Isaac was Guillermo's first choice to play Dr. Victor Frankenstein opposite Jacob Elordi as the monster, and he can recall being emotionally moved by the filmmaker's script for his version of the famous story.

The pair first met over lunch and The Shape of the Water filmmaker Guillermo told his leading man he was "making a feast".

That meeting was followed a year later when del Toro presented Isaac with a script and as the actor got to the last page the pair "were just crying".

Isaac said: "There's just so much pain there."
