The Stone Roses’ bassist Gary “Mani” Mounfield, who also played with Primal Scream, has died just days after his birthday and announcing an upcoming tour. He was 63.

The death of the “Madchester” musician, was announced Thursday in a Facebook post from his brother, Greg. Mounfield celebrated his birthday this past Sunday.

“It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce the sad passing of my brother Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield. RIP RKID,” he wrote, before adding in the comments: “Reunited with his beautiful wife Imelda.” Greg did not provide a cause of death.

The Manchester native died two years and two days after losing his wife to bowel cancer.

The couple welcomed twin sons Gene and George in 2012, according to The Independent. BBC reports the twins were born in 2013.

Last weekend, the “I Wanna Be Adored” rocker announced an “intimate” conversation U.K. tour he intended to kick off in September 2026.

Mounfield joined the Stone Roses in 1987 and played on their self-titled 1989 debut and 1994 sophomore album, “Second Coming.” Both appeared in the top five of the U.K. charts. The band broke up in 1996, after which, Mani took up with Primal Scream.

During his tenure with the Scottish band, Mani was also part of the bass supergroup Freebass, along with the Smiths’ Andy Rourke as well as Joy Division and New Order’s Peter Hook, though they only released one album before parting ways: 2010’s “It’s A Beautiful Life.”

Mounfield stayed with Primal Scream until 2011, at which point, the Stone Roses reunited, churning out two singles and playing together in 2016 and 2017, before calling it quits again.

During Mani’s would-be upcoming tour, which would have run until June 2027, he intended to discuss the influence of the Stone Roses.

“REST IN PEACE MANi X,” wrote Stone Roses lead singer Ian Brown.

“IN TOTAL SHOCK AND ABSOLUTELY DEVASTATED ON HEARING THE NEWS ABOUT MANI MY HERO RIP RKID LG,” tweeted Oasis front man and co-founder Liam Gallagher.

The Charlatans’ Tim Burgess remembered Mani with as much fondness as he had on the latter’s birthday, calling him, “One of the absolute best in every way — such a beautiful friend. Love you Mani x x. Never to be forgotten.”
