New on DVD: Enjoy 'Good Fortune' with Ansari's directorial debut

A comedy about a guardian angel swapping the lives of a struggling gig worker and his wealthy boss tops the DVD releases for the week of Dec. 9.

"Good Fortune": Keanu Reeves portrays Gabriel, a not-so-effective guardian angel trying to help the struggling Arj (Aziz Ansari) in this comedy, which also features Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer and Sandra Oh. Written by Ansari, who also makes his feature-directing debut.

"The Strangers: Chapter 2": The second installment of director Renny Harlin’s trilogy of prequels to 2008 horror flick “The Strangers.”

"Dead of Winter": In this cold-tinged drama, Emma Thompson portrays a grief-stricken loner who, when lost in the back roads of Minnesota, encounters a desperate couple (Judy Greer and Marc Menchaca) who’ve kidnapped a young woman (Laurel Marsden).

"Beast of War": Set in the Pacific Theater of WWII, a squad of troops is marooned at sea after their boat is attacked and find themselves squaring off against a more primal foe — a man-eating shark.

 

"Irish Blood: Series 1": Alicia Silverstone stars as an American divorce lawyer whose unsuspected past comes calling in the form of a photograph mailed from Ireland, setting her on a trip to the Emerald Isle and her estranged dad.

"Killing Faith": Western featuring Guy Pearce, DeWanda Wise and Bill Pullman centered on a doctor taking a freed slave and her daughter to a healer who can address what is either possession or illness in the child.

"London Calling": Action comedy about a hit man who must babysit his boss’ clueless son. Starring Josh Duhamel, Jeremy Ray Taylor and Rick Hoffman.

"Rabbit Trap": Dev Patel and Rosy McEwen portray a married couple that runs afoul of fairies in this British horror offering written and directed by Bryn Chainey, who’s best known for short films.

"A Savage Art": Documentary about the life of famed political cartoonist Patrick Oliphant.
