The revamped Sex Pistols, the pioneering English punk-rock band that imploded in early 1978 after a tumultuous run that lasted barely two years, are San Diego-bound. Its North American fall tour will team three of the group’s original members — guitarist Steve Jones, drummer Paul Cook and bassist Glen Matlock— with Frank Carter, who replaces John Lydon on lead vocals.

The tour, announced Monday morning, is a rescheduled version of the Sex Pistols’ 2025 North American and South American concert trek. That tour fell through before it even began, after guitarist Jones broke his wrist.

The 2025 itinerary did not include a San Diego date, but the new tour does: Oct. 16 at the all-ages Soma, just one block from Pechanga Arena San Diego in the Midway District. The band’s tour includes two other California stops: Oct. 14 at The Warfield in San Francisco; and Oct. 18 at the Hollywood Palladium.

In a statement released Monday, guitarist Jones slyly alluded to his age (he is 70), saying: “Mr. Jones here with an update on my wrist. I think it’s good enough to do the upcoming tour; now if I can just stop my legs from buckling up, I think I’ll be in good shape.”

The tour will feature the band performing all 11 songs from its 1977 debut album, “Never Mind The Bullocks: Here’s The Sex Pistols,” including “Anarchy in the UK” and “God Save the Queen.” The “Never Mind” album, which clocks in at just over 41 minutes, remains the short-lived group’s only studio album. This year’s tour repertoire will also feature additional material.

Matlock co-wrote nine of the songs on “Never Mind.” He was fired from he band in early 1977 after repeatedly clashing with Lydon. Matlock’s replacement, Sid Vicious, died of a heroin overdose in 1979 at the age of 21. His death came less than a month after the Sex Pistols imploded following a fractious San Francisco concert, at which Lydon famously asked the audience: “Ever get the feeling you’ve been cheated?”

The Sex Pistols’ only previous San Diego performance was at the 2003 Street Scene festival during the second of the band’s three reunion tours with its full original lineup. Rotten, whose real name is John Lydon, was still on board for the Street Scene show. He and the band last played together in 2008.

Jones, Matlock and Cook regrouped in 2024 with Carter replacing Lydon on lead vocals. Lydon, 70, has dismissed the iteration of the Pistols led by Carter, 40, as “karaoke.”

Tickets for all of the announced tour dates go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. local time on Friday, March 6, and will be preceded by three pre-sales, starting Tuesday. More information is available at events.seated.com/sex-pistols-featuring-frank-carter.

Ticket prices have not yet been disclosed. Tickets purchased for the postponed 2025 tour dates will be honored at the rescheduled 2026 performances in most markets.
