Taylor Sheridan's 'The Madison' premieres this weekend. Here's what to know

FORT WORTH, Texas — Taylor Sheridan’s latest show premieres this weekend on Paramount+.
The Michelle Pfeiffer-led “The Madison” will release three episodes on Saturday, March 14, and three more on March 21. The six-episode series is described as a “heartfelt study of grief and human connection following a New York City family (the Clyburns) in the Madison River valley of central Montana.”
Production on the show took place in Montana and in North Texas, where the region stood in for New York City.
Here’s what to know about the show.
What is ‘The Madison’ about?
“The Madison” has been described as Sheridan’s most intimate work to date.
One of the show’s inspirations is 1992’s Robert Redford-directed and Brad Pitt-starring “A River Runs Through It,” according to Town & Country. The Montana-set film follows a pair of brothers who come of age in the early 20th century.
“The Madison” sees Pfeiffer’s character and her family grapple with heartbreak after an unexpected death.
Her husband, played by Kurt Russell, owns a retreat in the Madison River Valley and that’s where their family gathers as they deal with the unthinkable.
“She is really the anchor of her family and trying to be the moral compass when tragedy ensues,” Pfeiffer told Town & Country. “They’re this New York socialite family traveling in all of the elite circles, and struggle is not something that they experience often.”
Is ‘The Madison’ a ‘Yellowstone’ spinoff?
No, “The Madison” is not a “Yellowstone” spinoff.
Originally, Sheridan envisioned “The Madison” to have some kind of connection to “Yellowstone,” according to Town & Country. However, as the scripts evolved for the new show, it became a stand-alone story.
Where did ‘The Madison’ film?
“The Madison” filmed its first season from August to December 2024.
Production began in Montana around Ennis, Bozeman and Three Forks. For the last month or so of filming, the cast and crew flew down to Texas.
The production repainted the North Texas landscape to appear as The Big Apple. New York City Police Department-branded vehicles were spotted on the streets of Dallas, and extras were needed in Fort Worth for a scene at New York City’s Museum of Modern Art.
It’s unclear if “The Madison” shot any Texas-set footage while in the area or if it’s solely NYC-based.
Who is in ‘The Madison?’
Pfeiffer and Russell lead the show, with a big cast to follow.
“The Madison” also stars Patrick J. Adams, Matthew Fox, Elle Chapman, Beau Garrett, Amiah Miller, Alaina Pollack, Ben Schnetzer, Rebecca Spence, Danielle Vasinova, Kevin Zegers and Will Arnett.
Is ‘The Madison’ coming back for Season 2?
Yes, the show has been renewed for a second go-around, which has already been filmed.
The show’s second season had a similar production timeline to its first, beginning in the fall and wrapping before the holidays. Again, filming began in Montana and wrapped in North Texas.
Production started in September 2025 in Montana and transitioned to the Metroplex in December. Scenes were filmed in Dallas, Denton and Fort Worth.
It’s unknown when “The Madison” Season 2 will premiere, but fans will get their first glimpse at the show this weekend.
