The latest animated film featuring Illumination's beloved rascals tops the DVD releases for the week of Sept. 8.

"Minions & Monsters": In this love letter to Hollywood, we learn about a trio of filmmaking Minions who gatecrash the studio system of the 1920s, strike out on their own to make an independent monster movie and have to save the world from what they unleash.

"Pierre Coffin would like a little respect — and maybe an Oscar. So would James, the Minion hero of Coffin’s new movie, 'Minions & Monsters,' and they’re both going to go about it in the same way, by making a movie about Hollywood," writes Tribune News Service critic Katie Walsh. "Flattery will get you everywhere, especially in this town. The Academy loves to reward films about the noble quest of making art, especially movies, because who wouldn’t want to see themselves reflected onscreen? Coffin may be banking on that narcissism, while simultaneously giving the American film industry a light, good-humored flambé."

"Supergirl": DC's latest superhero movie tells the story of Kara Zor-El (Milly Alcock), drifting out to the outer planets of the universe and coming back to herself and her purpose.

"Leviticus": In a small, backwards Australian community, coming of age and coming out evince fear in the Christian townsfolk. Two teenage boys (Stacy Clausen and Joe Bird) keep their attraction to themselves, but even so, a violent curse bedevils them after witnessing a car crash.

"MobLand: Season One": Pierce Brosnan stars as a mob patriarch in this Paramount+ drama also featuring Tom Hardy and Paddy Considine.

"Tulsa King: Season Three": Sylvester Stallone returns as an exiled mobster in the third season of the Paramount+ show from the prolific Taylor Sheridan.

"Man of War": LaMonica Garrett stars in this action flick as a special forces soldier who has to wade through the front lines of the Ukrainian conflict after his adopted daughter is kidnapped by the Russians.

"Moana": The young princess Moana (Catherine Laga'aia) is chosen by the ocean to return the heart of Te Fiti in order to save her island, teaming up with the demigod Maui (Dwayne Johsnon) to do so, in Disney's live-action remake of the animated hit.

"Mutiny": It's "Die Hard" on a container ship as Jason Statham seeks vengeance and justice on the high seas in this action flick.

"One Night Only": The government has banned premarital sex, except for one night a year. Can two crazy single kids (Callum Turner and Monica Barbaro) fall in love?
