Sound Advice: Great LED beauty device that doesn't require wearing mask
Published in Entertainment News
Q. I am interested in the LED light treatment for my skin but don't like the idea of wearing a tight-fitting mask. Do I have any other options? Have you been happy with the treatment?
—L.K., Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania
A. I've been very pleased with the results from LED, and am glad I found another treatment process since I had to discontinue using RF machines due to receiving a dental implant. LED doesn't provide quite as much of a lifting effect, but it offers other significant healthful benefits that RF cannot provide and I consider it a fair trade-off. Fortunately there are other options for LED facial treatment if a mask is not to your liking.
I suggest you check out the L&L Skin MAMI 5-in-1 Hot & Cold Beauty Device. It is a self-contained, handheld device for LED and gua sha facial skin treatment. The curved massaging head incorporates blue and red LED light as well as heating and cooling. Turn it on to start the massage as it cycles through the treatment regimen as you pass it over your face. The massaging improves circulation and relieves tension. The cool mode (43-50 degrees Fahrenheit lower than room temperature) lifts and tightens skin, as the blue LEDs reduce dark circles under the eyes and target bacteria that can can cause acne. The red LEDs combined with heating opens pores, reduces wrinkles and improves skin radiance. The MAMI feel solid in the hand and charges via USB-C.
When you turn it on it starts in normal mode with massage. After three minutes it switches to blue LEDs and cooling, then after another three minutes it switches to the red LEDs and heating. It beeps when it changes modes and the entire process takes nine minutes. Every application provides 100% of the benefits of the device, and you can pass it over your face as you relax and watch television. I definitely felt the effects after using it, and it was quite invigorating overall. The LED mask seems to be somewhat stronger and it stimulated my skin to the point of being slightly uncomfortable, though it passed quickly. I never experienced that with the MAMI, and the gentler treatment is probably a good thing for older folks and those with sensitive skin.
The MAMI is racking up great reviews from other users as well. Regularly $299, L&L just extended their Labor Day sale through month-end so using the code LABORDAY at llskinshop.com reduces the price 40% to only $179.40. The 40% off code works on their LED mask as well, so if you decide it is a better fit for your needs the code reduces the mask price from $319 to $191.40.
A bit of self-disclosure, I turn 60 this year! My first column ran on July 4, 2002, so I was only 35 years old when I wrote it. It seems like yesterday, and I don't really feel any older. It has been quite a ride since then as I have made friends with and corresponded with so many wonderful readers and industry professionals, becoming a part of the electronics and entertainment world I have dearly loved since before I was a teenager. It's like living a dream. I am bringing up my age because of the milestone and because I have been told I look a lot younger than I am. I don't know how much of that is good genes, and how much of it is things like RF treatment and now LED treatment. It's probably a bit of both, and since it seems to be working I am staying the course!
