Widow's Bay has beaten the record for the comedy series with the most Emmy Awards in one season.

The Apple TV horror comedy had been shortlisted for 19 prizes and came home with a total of 14, eight of which it picked up during last weekend's ceremonies, and an additional six, including the coveted Outstanding Comedy Series, which were won on Monday (14.09.26).

The haul surpassed the record 13 which The Studio received last year.

Monday's ceremony also saw acting wins in the supporting categories for Kate O'Flynn and Stephen Root, and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Matthew Rhys, who himself made history as a double winner by also taking the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for the Beast In Me.

Accepting his comedy prize, Matthew paid tribute to creator Katie Dippold, who had won the Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series award: "Stephen Root was right. This is purely because of the depraved and twisted mind of Katie Dippold. And her genius really does live in the recesses of her disturbed brain."

The show's haul was rounded out by a directing honour for Hiro Murai.

Elsewhere during the ceremony - which was hosted by Mariska Hargitay and took place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles - The Pitt was named Outstanding Drama Series, and its star Noah Wyle took the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series award for the second year in a row, bringing the medical saga's total for the year to seven wins.

Noah said: "I grew up in L.A. I'm a Hollywood kid. I was raised on television, and movie theatres were my place of worship. This is all I've ever wanted to do, and this is the only club I've ever wanted to join."

DTF St. Louis won the Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series prize, and creator Steven Conrad was recognised for both directing and writing.

Meanwhile, Pluribus' Rhea Seehorn won the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series award, and the supporting drama actor and actress accolades went to Tom Pelphrey for Task and Allison Janney for The Diplomat. Jean Smart scored her fifth win - one for every season of Hacks - in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category, and Sally Field's turn in Remarkably Bright Creatures earned her the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.

The Traitors was named Outstanding Reality Competition Program and the now-cancelled The Late Show with Stephen Colbert took home Outstanding Variety Series.
