NEW YORK — New Order’s Gillian Gilbert has cancer.

The band’s longtime keyboardist made her admission after a Rolling Stone interview with drummer Stephen Morris that left some readers thinking the percussionist, to whom she’s married, is ailing.

Gilbert clarified that it isn’t Morris who’s “seriously ill” in a Tuesday post on the band’s website.

“It is in fact me, who like many other people, is living with cancer,” she wrote. “We completely understand how the misunderstanding arose and simply wanted to ensure that the correct information was shared.”

Gilbert thanked fans for their continuing support and asked for privacy as she continues medical treatment.

The 65-year-old musician offered no specifics about her diagnosis. She joined New Order months after her husband co-founded the band in 1980.

New Order was a spinoff of his previous group Joy Division, which rebranded after its singer, Ian Curtis, died from suicide.

Neither Gilbert nor Morris will join the band’s South America tour when it begins in November. New Order cited unspecific “personal health reasons” for their unavailability in a statement posted to social media in June.

Miller told Rolling Stone “a bit of a health problem” is complicating his plans to possibly attend his band’s upcoming Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction.
