NEW YORK — Ed Sheeran’s team is reportedly working with a beefed-up Philadelphia police detail to provide security at his Saturday show.

Sheeran’s show in the City of Brotherly Love will be the singer’s first since his supporting acts abandoned him in solidarity with opening act Macklemore. The Seattle rapper was dropped from Sheeran’s Loop Tour after expressing support for Palestinians during a recent show.

Security at Lincoln Financial Field will include “a small army of cops” inside and outside the stadium,” law enforcement sources told TMZ.

Concertgoers will reportedly pass through metal detectors and be subject to pat-downs in some cases.

Philadelphia police told TMZ, “Our officers are talking to his team to make sure all appropriate measures are taken.”

Sheeran released a statement on Monday telling fans that concert promoters pulled Macklemore off of the tour after venue owners expressed unease over the “Can’t Hold Us” vocalist’s remarks to the audience about the conflict in the Middle East.

Macklemore stirred controversy by saying “Free Palestine” during a performance at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey earlier this month. Sheeran said in his statement that he, too, has opinions on world events, but chooses not to express them onstage.

Musicians Aaron Rowe, Finneas O’Connell, Lukas Graham and Beoga reacted to that statement by showing solidarity with Macklemore and bailing from the tour’s lineup.

Sheeran is slated to perform two shows at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts next week. The Foxborough venue is run by Robert Kraft, who is said to have been one of the owners who objected to hosting Macklemore.

Kraft said in a statement posted to X Wednesday that Sheeran asked him to pledge $2 million in relief funding to people in Gaza. After Hamas militants crossed the border to attack civilians in Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, Israeli forces invaded that Palestinian territory.

Philadelphia authorities told TMZ they’re aware of no specific threats to Sheeran.
