SAN JOSE, Calif. — A report published early Thursday evening reported that the Lady Gaga and her fiancé Michael Polansky welcomed their daughter, Rose Bean Polansky, via a surrogate.

TMZ broke the story earlier Thursday that a birth certificate for Gaga’s daughter showed that she was born at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles under the care of Robert Katz, who is known as “the OB-GYN to the stars. TMZ updated the story several hours later to say that the baby was born via a surrogate at 11:19 p.m. on June 9, which means the baby is about 3 months old.

For Gaga fans, the birth certificate should address certain questions that some fans had about a pregnancy. TMZ said it’s not known why the Grammy winner opted to use a surrogate, though she has been open in the past about her struggles with fibromyalgia, a condition that causes severe chronic pain and exhaustion.

The birth certificate also appears to confirm a report that she and Polansky probably maintain a home in the Los Angeles area — specifically in Malibu — though it’s also been reported that they’ve spent the past few months living out of the spotlight in Northern California, specifically in Marin County.

Last week, Page Six published photos of Gaga and Polansky taking a stroll somewhere in Northern California, with Gaga holding the infant close to her in a front carrier. The Daily Mail and other outlets have reported over the past year that Gaga and Polansky, 42, have moved into a $10 million home in Marin County, with the Daily Mail describing how she essentially went into hiding and was laying low in the area following the end of her Mayhem Ball world tour in April.

Locals also have told the Daily Mail and the San Francisco Standard about frequent sightings of the “Bad Romance” singer at popular restaurants, coffee houses and shopping destinations in Mill Valley and Larkspur, with people speculating that she and Polansky, a long-time San Francisco-based tech investor and venture capitalist, were possibly living in either Ross or Mill Valley.

Now it’s time for people to try and figure out the inspiration for Rose Bean’s name. As TMZ reported, Gaga has a large rose tattooed down her spine, which she got to commemorate her performance of “La Vie en Rose” in the 2018 film “A Star is Born.”

TMZ said the middle name Bean may have been inspired by Carl Bean, the late singer, activist and founding prelate of the Unity Fellowship Church Movement, a liberal Protestant denomination in Los Angeles that sought to serve the spiritual needs of Black LGBTQ people and others who were marginalized, the New York Times reported. A former Motown and disco singer, Bean was known for his 1977 version of the gay anthem, “I Was Born This Way,” which inspired Gaga’s 2011 album and song of the same name.

Gaga and Polansky have been together for six years, after meeting in 2019 at a star-studded 40th birthday party in Los Angeles for tech entrepreneur Sean Parker. In early 2020, the Grammy and Oscar winner made the relationship Instagram official by posting a photo of the two of them on a yacht, cuddling.

Gaga revealed their engagement in 2024, during the Paris Olympics, where she repeatedly introduced Polansky as her fiancé. Ahead of her Mayhem Ball tour, she also credited Polansky with encouraging her to return to her core values as an artist and to make pop music that people can dance to.
