Dire Straits rocker Mark Knopfler's daughter is engaged.

Actor Sam Buchanan, 29, proposed to his The Wayfinders co-star Issy Knopfler, 28, during a romantic getaway on October 2, and they shared the joyous news on Instagram three days later.

The actress shared shots of the couple beaming as she showed off her large diamond engagement ring, while in another photo, Sam smiled beside a big tiramisu decorated with the word "engaged" during their romantic dinner date.

Issy captioned the joint post: "02.10.2026."

They were showered with congratulatory messages from their The Wayfinders co-stars and fans in the post's comments section.

Winter Bassett Ekladios (Brynlee) enthused: "OH MY GODDDDD!!!!!!! Congratulations, you guys!!! (sic)"

Rowan Robinson (Zaya) gushed: "Omggggg congrats (sic)."

One supporter penned: "Congratulations you absolutely beautiful people.. inside and out! Wish you health , happiness and adventure filled with love and craziness ahead (sic)."

And a second supporter typed: "Huge congratulations Issy and Sam delighted for you both xx (sic)."

Sam played stab victim Fitzy in the British soap opera EastEnders in 2021 as part of a knife crime storyline.

Issy, meanwhile, has starred in British crime drama series Silent Witness and Before We Die.

She is the daughter of Mark Knopfler, 77, who was the lead guitarist, singer and songwriter of Dire Straits from 1977 to 1995.

After the band, also formed of Mark's brother, guitarist David Knopfler, 73, bassist John Illsley, 77, and drummer Pick Withers, 78, first split in 1988, Mark pursued a solo career and continues to be an independent artist.

And despite their manager Paul Crockford always telling John about the large sums of money people are willing to pay to see the Grammy-winning rock band back on stage, the quartet has no plans to do so.

Speaking to The Telegraph in November 2023, John explained: "Every time we have lunch, [he] says to me, 'I wish people would stop offering me huge amounts of money to put [Dire Straits] back together.'"

The Money For Nothing hitmaker insists the group ended at the right time because it was getting in the way of their personal lives.

He added: "Most of our marriages were falling apart, we weren't seeing our children very much - it was all wrong. It's the usual things that can happen to people in bands."

And in a 2008 interview with BBC News, he claimed Mark's successful solo career was in the way of a reunion.

He explained: "I think we've definitely got one more tour left in us, and probably another record too.

"[But] he's [Knopfler] doing different kinds of music now.

"He's doing incredibly well as a solo artist, so hats off to him. He's having a perfectly good time doing what he's doing."
