Venus Vies for Attention
As the moon squares off against Neptune and then takes the argument to Venus, people test one another, though they are frequently not even conscious of the challenge they present, throwing obstacles in the path of love and acceptance. Who is worthy of attention, how much and what kind? And more importantly, who is to judge?
ARIES (March 21-April 19). Not all confident people are capable, and some of the most capable people are sorely under-confident, but you are an excellent judge of character who sees through people's estimation of themselves and into the truth -- a skill you'll use today.
TAURUS (April 20-May 20). When your troubles are few, savor the break and know you've earned it. Don't borrow trouble. If this message comes to you too late, don't worry. All you have to do is return the trouble like a library book and don't check it out again.
GEMINI (May 21-June 21). Egos are like the pot-bellied pigs sold as "miniature" that are actually a typical pig who will grow to size according to their feeding. Egos shrink when they are not indulged. You define the parameters of your ego's proper diet.
CANCER (June 22-July 22). You'll get to know someone by bringing up new topics in hopes of finding more common ground. Where your taste intersects with another person's is the magic -- a confluence of aesthetics and values.
LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). It is only natural to fall into automatic behaviors with familiar people. Interrupt the pattern with a contemplative pause to consider that the very best way to help may not be your typical response.
VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). Explore the tension between individuality and connection. A tricky friend embodies a version of support that comes with consequences but also rewards -- an interesting mirror for your own exploration of self-esteem.
LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). Your work is an extension of you -- a mirror that allows you to see different aspects of yourself. Because you're incredibly observant, with a rare awareness of how your personality comes across, you'll find interesting ways to collaborate.
SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Ailments of the soul call for the healing balm of faith. As with all balms, the healing isn't in the ointment itself. The balm simply creates the conditions in which the soul can restore itself.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Your fears are so deeply human, and they don't diminish your accomplishments or your value. Reflect on all you've done, and the memories you've created -- significant proof of your ability to bring light into the world.
CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). If there's too much distraction in your world, there's no room for your talents and your drive to flourish, unclouded. You have what it takes to rule a room. The work now is believing it and staying aligned with the life you're meant to create.
AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Your uniqueness stems from an acute awareness of what's fair, kind and right -- and a willingness to pursue it no matter what. What works for you may contradict the world's expectations, but you won't let their perceptions box you in.
PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). Sailors use the wind's direction to navigate, even though the wind itself has no intention to assist or hinder them. Today you'll adjust your sail to turn an indifferent force into a source of forward motion. Life isn't about control so much as response.
TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (Feb. 8). Each day you'll grow in understanding, and you'll often diminish the suffering of others, too, which is what truly makes the year exceptional. More highlights: A wealth of experience is only one of the kinds you'll grow. You'll dive into mysteries, and let curiosity carry you to different kinds of relationships, social niches and parts of the world. Virgo and Scorpio adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 1, 2, 11, 30 and 14.
CELEBRITY PROFILES: James Dean's Aquarian traits -- eccentric, visionary and untamed -- continue to inspire those who challenge the status quo. Known for his roles in "Rebel Without a Cause" and "East of Eden," Dean's untimely death at 24 cemented him as a cultural icon, forever associated with youthful defiance and the quest for personal meaning. A new wave of retrospectives, documentaries and digital tributes honor his enduring legacy, reminding us of his impact as a symbol of the disillusioned youth of his time.
