Will the Earth self-destruct if God doesn’t intervene?
From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham
Q: There was a day when I thought it was ridiculous to think Jesus would come back to Earth someday. But the more time passes, it seems more believable because our world is on a journey that will have to come to a screeching halt because the world is out of control and no one has a clue what to do about it. We are going to self-destruct if God doesn’t intervene. Is there any other solution? – C.R.
A: Bible scholars don’t always agree on the details, but one fact is clear: Someday Christ will come again to defeat all the forces of sin and evil and establish His supreme authority over creation. When will this happen? The Bible doesn’t give us an exact date but it says, “Of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only” (Matthew 24:36, NKJV).
Jesus warned us against trying to set an exact timetable for His return. But in God’s time, this present world order will come to an end, and Christ will return to rule in power and glory and justice. What a glorious day this will be!
The fact of Christ’s return should fill us with hope and joy and expectation. But it also should remind us of another truth: When Christ comes again, He will judge the world with perfect justice. On that day, those who have rebelled against God and rejected His offer of salvation in Christ “will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life” (Matthew 25:46, NKJV).
These are sobering words, and for those who have not turned from sin and opened their hearts to Jesus Christ, do it now, before it is too late.
