'SUPERMAN'

Rated PG-13 for violence, action and language.

What it’s about: The iconic superhero is reborn in James Gunn's vision, but with all the familiar elements in place — enemy Lex Luthor, lover Lois Lane — as he fights for truth, justice, and a better tomorrow.

The kid attractor factor: Older kids will be drawn to the superhero story and spectacle.

Good lessons/bad lessons: Humanity means doing good for each other, making the best choices we can, and protecting the most vulnerable among us.

Violence: Some intense violence and fighting scenes among metahumans, but nothing bloody or gory.

Language: Some strong language.

Sex: Kissing scenes and suggestive references

Drugs: None

Parents’ advisory: OK for older kids and teens but too violent and scary for little kids.

'DON'T LET'S GO TO THE DOGS TONIGHT'

Rated R for violent/bloody images, language, sexual assault, and some underage smoking/drinking.

What it’s about: A young girl on a Rhodesian farm serves as the focus of this drama set amid the tensions of Zimbabwe's impending election in 1980.

The kid attractor factor: This is more of an adult drama, even though it's told through the eyes of a 7-year-old child.

Good lessons/bad lessons: We are more alike than different, despite borders, cultures and political strife.

Violence: Images of a bloody attack, references to a child's accidental death, discussions of war and terrorism.

Language: Some swearing.

Sex: References to sex, and a sexual assault on a minor.

Drugs: Children smoking cigarettes.

Parents’ advisory: This is a film about kids in a fraught political time. Probably too mature for most kids, even though it is real.
