Donald Trump's Memorial Day Message

Susan Estrich on

This was Donald Trump's Memorial Day Message:

"HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY TO ALL, INCLUDING THE SCUM THAT SPENT THE LAST FOUR YEARS TRYING TO DESTROY OUR COUNTRY THROUGH WARPED RADICAL LEFT MINDS, WHO ALLOWED 21,000,000 MILLION PEOPLE TO ILLEGALLY ENTER OUR COUNTRY, MANY OF THEM BEING CRIMINALS AND THE MENTALLY INSANE,THROUGH AN OPEN BORDER THAT ONLY AN INCOMPETENT PRESIDENT WOULD APPROVE, AND THROUGH JUDGES WHO ARE ON A MISSION TO KEEP MURDERERS, DRUG DEALERS, RAPISTS, GANG MEMBERS, AND RELEASED PRISONERS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD, IN OUR COUNTRY SO THEY CAN ROB, MURDER, AND RAPE AGAIN -- ALL PROTECTED BY THESE USA HATING JUDGES WHO SUFFER FROM AN IDEOLOGY THAT IS SICK, AND VERY DANGEROUS FOR OUR COUNTRY. HOPEFULLY THE UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT, AND OTHER GOOD AND COMPASSIONATE JUDGES THROUGHOUT THE LAND, WILL SAVE US FROM THE DECISIONS OF THE MONSTERS WHO WANT OUR COUNTRY TO GO TO HELL. BUT FEAR NOT, WE HAVE MADE GREAT PROGRESS OVER THE LAST 4 MONTHS, AND AMERICA WILL SOON BE SAFE AND GREAT AGAIN! AGAIN, HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY, AND GOD BLESS AMERICA!"

At first, I thought it was a joke, a parody of the sick and crazy man who is the most powerful man in the world. Who wakes up Memorial Day morning and pens a hateful screed like this, without even a single mention of those who gave their lives in defense of this country?

Donald Trump, that's who.

How do you draft such garbage? How do you defend this man? This is the leader of the free world.

Calling your predecessor, who in fact closed the border, "scum." The man is fighting cancer. Donald Trump has no respect for the presidency and no decency. He is scum.

And the attack on the nation's judges, who today are facing death threats because they stand as the only protection against a despotic would-be dictator determined to shred the Constitution.

The attack is unwarranted and more dangerous to human life than any decision any judge has made. I defy you Trump defenders to find a single instance of a judge "on a mission to keep murderers, drug dealers, rapists, gang members and released prisoners from all over the world in our country so they can rob, murder and rape again." One case. By granting a hearing so it can be proven who deserves to be deported and who doesn't. That is known as the rule of law. People cannot just be "disappeared" at the will of King Donald, to meet his ridiculous quotas on human beings. His thugs are terrorizing law-abiding people in the name of filling these quotas. If Donald Trump had his way, this would be a police state, with open season on its judges.

Words have power. Holding up the judiciary who dare to enforce the law as America-hating "monsters who want our country to go to hell" is like crying fire in a crowded theater. It is an incitement to violence. If a judge in this country is attacked, and God help us, the way Trump talks -- and then pardons -- he or she will be, we know who is to blame. Donald J. Trump. Is that what he really wants?

Probably. This is the man who incited the riots on Jan. 6 and then pardoned the rioters who caused terror, death and destruction. Will they storm the courthouses next? Will he pardon them when they do (or make their mothers contribute $1 million to Donald Trump, the going rate for pardons these days)?

I looked for high-ranking Republicans who would stand up to this president and criticize his incitement to violence. I didn't find a single one. Have they no decency? No shame? On a day when we remember those brave men and women who gave their lives for our country, the silence of the Republican cowards is deafening.
