ORLANDO, Fla. — The Magic entered the second round of the 2025 NBA draft with two picks in the second round Thursday night.

Orlando, however, quickly moved up the draft board once the second round began at Barclays Center.

The Magic acquired the draft rights to No. 32 from the Celtics in exchange for the No. 46 and No. 57 picks this year, a 2026 second-rounder (most favorable of Detroit, Milwaukee, Orlando), and a 2027 second-rounder (most favorable of Orlando and Boston), a league source told the Orlando Sentinel.

The Magic and president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman made the trade with Boston to draft Noah Penda, a 6-foot-8 forward from France, the league source said.

Penda, 20, joins guard Jase Richardson, who the Magic took with the No. 25 pick during Wednesday’s first round.

Although Orlando sent the Celtics four second-round picks, the Magic still owns nine second-round picks and four firsts over the next seven years.

Born in Paris, Penda played for Le Mans Sarthe Basket in the LNB Élite, France’s top tier of pro competition in 2024. This past season, he averaged 10.2 points, 5 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.4 steals in 26.6 minutes per game across 28 appearances, according to NBA.com.

Penda has also represented France on the international stage.

During the 2024 FIBA U20 EuroBasket tournament, Penda averaged 11.7 points while helping his team win the championship.

Trading in the second round isn’t anything new for the Magic. Since Weltman’s arrival, Orlando has traded majority of their second picks, but only to push them back to future years or for cash considerations.

Magic wing Caleb Houstan was last second-round pick the Magic signed in 2022.
