MINNEAPOLIS — Toraya Reid, the 28-year-old sister of Timberwolves star Naz Reid, was shot and killed Saturday in New Jersey.

A New Jersey prosecutor charged Shaquille Green, whom the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said was in a relationship with Toraya, with her murder.

Green, 29, also was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon. He remains in custody at an eastern New Jersey jail.

Naz, the 26-year-old player whose charisma and skill has generated a cult following among Timberwolves fans, has spoken fondly about his family before. Naz and his sisters grew up in Asbury Park, N.J.

In a 2023 interview with Mpls.St.Paul Magazine, Naz Reid mentioned his sisters Toraya and Jakahya, calling his older sister “super protective.”

“She treats us like she’s our parent,” he said.

According to the local prosecutor’s office:

Jackson Township police officers received a call at about 11 a.m. Saturday about an unresponsive woman in the road close to an apartment.

There, they found a deceased woman with multiple gunshot wounds near the exit of an apartment complex, whom officials later identified as Toraya. Police arrested Green after finding him running on a nearby road.
