BOSTON — Nearly every fan inside TD Garden was on their feet at the 9:23 mark of the fourth quarter. At the time, the Boston Celtics had all the momentum with a five-point lead as Hugo González approached the foul line. But amid the chaos, Cade Cunningham rallied his teammates to help them regain their composure.
Cunningham's message helped the Detroit Pistons stay within striking distance. However, the Pistons' 13-game winning streak ended in a 117-114 loss to the Celtics in the Emirates NBA Cup Wednesday night. Cunningham led the way with 42 points, eight rebounds and five assists, while Jalen Duren added 16 rebounds and 12 points.
Jaylen Brown led the Celtics with 33 points, to go along with 10 rebounds and five assists. Derrick White added 27 points, while Payton Pritchard scored 14. White and Pritchard shot a combined 10 of 18 from behind the arc.
