BOSTON — The lone Belichick left on the New England Patriots’ coaching staff won’t return in 2025.

Patriots safeties coach Brian Belichick will be moving on, a source confirmed to the Boston Herald. ESPN’s Mike Reiss was first to report Belichick’s departure.

Belichick, the youngest child of former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, first joined the staff in 2016 as a scouting assistant. He went into coaching as a coaching assistant in 2017 before being named safeties coach in 2019.

Belichick earned two Super Bowl rings with the Patriots. The team’s safeties were typically considered a strength during his six years on staff, coaching Devin McCourty, Patrick Chung, Duron Harmon, Kyle Dugger and Jabrill Peppers, among others.

The Patriots saw development out of young safeties Dell Pettus, Marte Mapu, Jaylinn Hawkins and Brenden Schooler under Belichick in 2024.

Belichick remained with the Patriots in 2024 with Jerod Mayo has head coach despite his father being fired after the 2023 season. His brother, Steve, also left the Patriots after the 2023 season. Mayo was fired after the 2024 season and replaced by Mike Vrabel.

Bill is now head coach of the University of North Carolina, where Steve is the defensive coordinator.

There’s no obvious replacement on the Patriots’ current staff, though Kevin Richardson, who comes over from the University of Illinois, has experience with defensive backs.

It’s still unknown if cornerbacks coach Mike Pellegrino will return to the Patriots in 2025.
