Dolphins bring back veteran receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr. after Hill's injury

MIAMI — The Dolphins moved quickly to replace injured receiver Tyreek Hill on Monday, reaching a deal with former Dolphins receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr., according to a league source.
Miami is plucking Wilson off the Saints practice squad, likely to fill Hill’s roster spot. Hill will miss the season after sustaining a dislocated knee and torn ACL in Monday’s 27-21 win against the Jets.
It’s a reunion for Wilson, who signed a three-year, $22.8 million deal with the Dolphins in March of 2022, weeks before Miami acquired Tyreek Hill from Kansas City.
With Hill and Jaylen Waddle and Trent Sherfield receiving most of the wide receiver targets, Wilson caught just 12 passes for 136 yards in his first season with the Dolphins.
In August 2023, his contract was restructured by the Dolphins, a move that voided the final year of his deal and allowed him to become a free agent in 2024. He was more productive in that 2023 season, finishing with 22 catches for 296 yards and three touchdowns. He ended up starting three of his 30 appearances for Miami.
Wilson signed with the Saints in March 2024 and caught 20 passes for 211 yards and a touchdown for New Orleans last season, appearing in 15 games with four starts. But he failed to make the 53-man roster in late August and has spent most of the past month of the season on the Saints’ practice squad.
Months before he joined the Dolphins, Wilson, 29, had his best NFL season for Dallas in 2021, catching 45 passes for 606 yards and four touchdowns.
Drafted by the Cowboys in the sixth round out of Boise State in 2018, the 6-2 Wilson has 121 catches for 1480 yards (a 12.2 average) and 12 touchdowns in six seasons, including 83 games and 11 starts. He missed his rookie season with a torn labrum in his shoulder.
He will join Waddle, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Malik Washington, Tahj Washington and Dee Eskridge as receivers on the Dolphins’ 53-man roster.
