CHICAGO — Coach Ben Johnson said this past week that the Chicago Bears “desperately” needed a win against the Cleveland Browns. His team took care of business Sunday at Soldier Field.

The Bears handled the Browns easily, winning 31-3 in front of 54,051 fans in one of the coldest games ever played at Soldier Field. The temperature at kickoff was 8 degrees.

The Browns offense might’ve been colder. Cleveland had only one first down in the first half and failed to find the end zone in the game. The Browns finished with just 197 total yards.

Quarterback Caleb Williams and the Bears offense did enough to cruise to an easy victory. Running back D’Andre Swift scored two touchdowns and wide receiver DJ Moore caught two touchdown passes from Williams.

The Bears improved to 10-4, their first 10-win season since 2018, and remained in playoff position in the NFC.

The Bears defense came up with three takeaways: interceptions by linebacker D’Marco Jackson and cornerbacks Jaylon Johnson and C.J. Gardner-Johnson. Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders, making his fourth NFL start, completed 18 of 35 passes for 177 yards with the three picks.

Browns star pass rusher Myles Garrett, who is chasing the NFL single-season sack record, recorded 1½ sacks to give him 21 1/2 on the season. He’s one shy of tying the record held by Michael Strahan (2001) and T.J. Watt (2021).

Other than that, not much went well for the Browns. The Bears offense totaled 361 yards and scored off all three takeaways.

Moore’s second touchdown catch, a 22-yarder, came moments after Jackson’s interception in the third quarter.

It was a remarkable throw by Williams, who threw into heavy coverage. Browns safety Grant Delpit appeared to be well-positioned to make an interception. Instead, the ball somehow threaded the needle and landed in Moore’s hands for six points.

The Bears were without top receiver Rome Odunze for the second week in a row. Odunze was active for the game but aggravated his foot injury in pregame warmups, and the Bears decided to hold him out.

Rookie Luther Burden III led the Bears with six catches for 84 yards but exited with an ankle injury. Moore caught four passes for 69 yards with the two touchdowns.

Williams went 17 for 28 for 242 yards and two touchdowns and didn’t turn the ball over. Swift paced the rushing attack with 98 yards and two scores on 18 carries.

The Bears have three games remaining in the regular season, starting with a rematch against the Green Bay Packers on Saturday night at Soldier Field.
