Red Wings begin road trip on winning note, beating Blues, 5-2

ST. LOUIS — This was a perfect way for the Red Wings to open this five-game road trip.
They took advantage of a struggling and tired St. Louis team Tuesday, beginning this long trip with a 5-2 victory over the Blues.
Like Saturday, the Wings found themselves behind. But this time it only took 47 seconds before the Blues' Brayden Schenn put back a rebound past goaltender John Gibson.
But similar to Saturday's win — a game in which the Wings roared back with six goals to defeat St. Louis, 6-4 — the Wings exploded, taking advantage of a Blues team playing its third game in four nights.
Ben Chiarot (first goal) and Alex DeBrincat (power play, second goal) scored first-period goals, to put the Wings in front to stay, and Dylan Larkin (seventh goal) and Elmer Soderblom (first goal) added insurance in the middle period, as the Wings moved to 7-3-0 on the season.
Larkin clinched the victory with an empty-net goal, his eighth, at 18:53 of the third period.
Chiarot tied the game 1-1, snapping a shot from the point that bounced off a Blues player and past goaltender Jordan Binnington at 12:01. DeBrincat then snapped the tie at 19:24 with his second goal in two games, redirecting Moritz Seider's shot.
Jordan Kyrou scored his fourth goal, at 15:36 of the third period, to slice the Wings' lead to 4-2.
Gibson stopped 20 shots to earn the victory.
The Wings move on to play Thursday in Los Angeles.
