Seattle Kraken down Winnipeg Jets behind Jordan Eberle's 2 goals

SEATTLE — Kraken 5, Jets 3 at Climate Pledge Arena
Notable: Two wins in three weeks against the defending Presidents’ Trophy winners was a lot to ask for. But the struggling Seattle Kraken managed it, scoring four goals plus an empty netter to beat Winnipeg on Thursday night.
Winger Eeli Tolvanen has been following instructions and firing away during Seattle’s cold spell, which netted him his first of the season in St. Louis on Saturday. He scored his second to tie the game at three early in the third period Thursday. Both of his goals have come on the power play.
Kraken captain Jordan Eberle then scored his sixth of the season, a redirection of a Matty Beniers feed at the back door midway through the third. The Kraken led for the first time, 4-3. New linemate Mason Marchment had the secondary assist.
Philipp Grubauer made the last of his 23 saves to make that slim lead hold up and Eberle added the empty netter as well.
Kaapo Kakko missed the first 10 games of the season with a broken hand. He scored his first goal Thursday night, but bad news followed quickly. Kakko angled a Jaden Schwartz shot into the upper net to tie the score at 1 with less than five minutes to go in the first period. He was ruled out of the game early in the second with a lower-body injury.
Winnipeg scored another to go ahead 2-1 and Seattle’s Vince Dunn canceled it out with his third of the season. Seattle appeared to take the lead for the first time while Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck was sprawled out with a tenuous grasp on the puck. After a quick discussion between the officials, the ruling on the ice was upheld – no goal. The whistle blew, or the puck was covered, maybe both.
With Dunn in the penalty box for hooking Kyle Connor, Connor did the honors in making it 3-2. His hard shot hit Grubauer and flipped up and over the goalie to make it 3-2. That dinged the league’s third-worst penalty kill (69.8%).
Goal of the game: Eberle’s 4-3 goal.
Player of the game: Dunn, in spite of the penalty that led to Connor’s goal. The defenseman finished with a season-high goal and two assists.
On tap: On Saturday the Kraken have another crack at the San Jose Sharks, who handed them their worst loss of the season last week, 6-1. Then they’re off on a four-game road trip.
