Arvidsson hat trick leads Red Wings to 4-1 victory over Blackhawks

DETROIT — The Detroit Red Wings look ready to go on with the season without Dylan Larkin.
The Wings looked fine without him Thursday hours after it was announced Larkin will not return to the Wings and the team has suspended him without pay, defeating the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1.
Lucas Raymond (power play) and Viktor Arvidsson scored third period goals, snapping a 1-1 tie.
Arvidsson added an empty net late in the third period, his eighth goal, to complete the hat trick Thursday, his sixth career three-goal game.
Raymond's power play goal at 1 minute 9 seconds of the third period broke a tie and sent the Wings to a 4-1 victory. After former Wings forward Patrick Kane was whistled for a high sticking penalty, Raymond quickly made the Blackhawks pay with a snipe from the dot, Raymond's fourth goal.
Arvidsson's goal, at 15:26, pushed the lead to 3-1. Arvidsson charged to the net and tapped in a loose puck past goaltender Spencer Knight.
The Wings outshot Chicago 29-18.
The Wings (6-4-3) have won five of their last seven games and have showed a resiliency to look like a capable and competitive team.
It was a newsy and busy day around Little Caesars Arena, as the entire Larkin saga exploded. Larkin and his agent Pat Brisson informed the Wings Larkin will not play for the Red Wings again, after asking for a trade in June. Larkin reported to training camp and played 10 games this season but grew increasingly frustrated with the lack of a trade.
Shawn Horcoff, the Wings' interim general manager, confirmed before Thursday's game the organization is suspending Larkin without pay.
Horcoff has been pleased with the way the Wings have handled the entire circus surrounding the situation.
"Unfortunately with social media nowadays, probably the majority of them found out on their phones," said Horcoff, of all the Larkin news. "I planned on talking to the guys (before Thursday's game). The players have done an amazing job dealing with a lot of outside noise. I've been very impressed with our leadership group, which has grown substantially since the start of the year."
Chicago's Connor Bedard put Chicago (4-9-0) ahead 1-0 with a first period goal, his third. Bedard backhanded a rebound past goaltender John Gibson at 5:59, getting wide open to the side of Gibson.
Arvidsson tied the game 1-1 with his sixth goal at 7:31 of the second period, after the Wings failed to capitalize on three consecutive power plays. Arvidsson got his stick on William Wallinder's point shot, freezing goaltender Spencer Knight.
Gibson kept the game 1-1 stopping Frank Nazar (Mount Clemens) on a penalty shot at 11:18 of the second period.
