Stellantis CEO shakes up senior leadership team in turnaround effort

Stellantis NV's CEO Antonio Filosa shook up his senior leadership team on Wednesday as he appointed new heads of Europe and South America, a new global manufacturing chief, and made several other personnel moves.
Filosa, who took the top role of the transatlantic automaker in June, has been working to reverse a recent trend of declining sales and profits. The Wednesday reshuffle comes after the surprise replacement of Chief Financial Officer Doug Ostermann with Joao Laranjo more than a week ago, and ahead of an expected strategic plan update for the company in 2026.
“With these new appointments we are promoting exceptional talent from inside and out to leadership roles as we prepare our business for future success," Filosa said in a statement.
He has been steadily shaping his executive ranks since his promotion to CEO, after previously leading the automaker's North American region. A number of the latest changes involved shifting around and elevating existing executives.
Stellantis said Emanuele Cappellano will head up the European region and brands while maintaining his current role overseeing Stellantis Pro One, the automaker's commercial vehicle arm.
Jean-Philippe Imparato, who had overseen Europe, will now focus on turning around Maserati as the struggling luxury brand's CEO and will report to Cappellano.
Herlander Zola takes over Cappellano's prior role as head of the South America region. Zola was previously over commercial vehicle divisions in the region.
Samir Cherfan joins Filosa's senior leadership team as head of the Middle East and Africa region as well as micromobility, which he had already been managing. Meanwhile, Grégoire Olivier, who has led China strategy, will now oversee both China and the larger Asia Pacific region for the automaker.
Philippe de Rovira, who had previously overseen all three regions under one roof — Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa — is departing the company "to pursue new career endeavors, as made public in July," the company announcement said.
The automaker also gets a new head of global manufacturing in Francesco Ciancia, who returns to Stellantis after a stint at Mercedes-Benz Group AG. He had overseen the German automaker's vans operations in Stuttgart, and previously worked at Stellantis and its predecessors dating back to 2001, including as a manufacturing head in several areas across the company.
Arnaud Deboeuf, who had led manufacturing, is leaving the company.
Filosa also said Ralph Gilles, a longtime design leader in the company, will officially join the automaker's senior leadership team with the title of global head of design.
The CEO said in a statement that the changes are about "sharpening" the automaker's regional focus, including by allocating specific responsibility over Asia Pacific and the Middle East and Africa region at the top leadership level.
