Hamas said to meet Qatar, Turkey officials over Trump plan

Members of Hamas’s political wing met officials from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey in Doha on Tuesday as part of the militant group’s deliberations over a U.S. peace plan for Gaza, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The Hamas delegation told the officials it was carefully reviewing the 20-point plan announced by U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday, the person said. It is preparing for a response after it has clarified some technical aspects and once it has consulted with other Palestinian factions, which is meant to end the two-year war in Gaza between Hamas and Israel.
On Tuesday, Trump said Hamas — designated a terrorist organization by the U.S., European Union and others — has “about three or four days” to decide.
“What we want is very simple: we want the hostages back immediately, and we want some good behavior,” Trump said. “Hamas is either going to be doing it or not, and if it’s not, it’s going to be a very sad end.”
It’s possible Hamas asks for some changes to the proposal rather than accepting or rejecting it outright, an outcome that may lead to more talks with Israel and mediators such as Qatar before a ceasefire can begin.
If Hamas rejects the plan, Israel has said it will continue with its offensive on Gaza City in the north of the Palestinian territory.
Qatar’s prime minister, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, told Al Jazeera on Tuesday there may still be challenges in getting Hamas to accept, with one issue being how quickly Israeli forces withdraw from Gaza.
The proposal doesn’t set a clear timeline for the withdrawal and says Israel can keep troops in a buffer zone within Gaza’s border.
“The plan achieves some issues, which is ending the war. And other issues need clarification and discussion,” Sheikh Mohammed said to Al-Jazeera, the Qatari news outlet. “But what are the alternatives? The main purpose is how to protect Gazans. We seek a solution that stops the bloodshed.”
