“The Pitt” creator R. Scott Gemmill, and its star, Noah Wyle, have addressed the Season 2 exit of Supriya Ganesh, who plays senior resident Dr. Samira Mohan on the HBO hit.

Both Gemmill and Wyle — who plays Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch on the medical drama — maintained that Ganesh’s departure has nothing to do with the actress and everything to do with her character’s story arc.

“It’s an inevitability that’s going to happen every season with this show because as writers we’re hard pressed to figure out what a lapse of time we can have and keep most of the ensemble together realistically,” Wyle told Variety during PaleyFest.

“Emergency rooms have a high revolving door,” he continued. “As always, we try to bring in new characters or promote from within as we go through these cast changes and try to keep the storylines fresh, but obviously Supriya has been a huge part of our show since the beginning.”

Gemmill echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that the priority is maintaining the realism of the show, which centers on a fictional hospital in Pittsburgh.

“Part of the nature of the business of a teaching hospital is that people come, they learn, and they leave,” Gemmill said. “In order to try to be truthful to the process, we’re turning over our cast.”

Ganesh’s exit from the show was announced earlier this month, sparking a fierce wave of pushback from fans of the HBO show. It was also revealed at the time that Ayesha Harris, who plays night-shift resident Dr. Parker Ellis, will be a series regular for Season 3.

Ganesh, who pulled out of attending PaleyFest last minute, has not commented on her upcoming exit from “The Pitt.”
