Kai Trump just went grocery shopping. Then came the backlash

You complain that Publix is expensive?
Try food shopping on the West Coast at a trendy grocery store with a weirdly unpronounceable name, Erewhon (Air-a-One), an anagram of “nowhere.” It was reportedly inspired by Samuel Butler’s 1872 dystopian novel of the same name.
Safe to say, BOGOs don’t exist at this high-end supermarket, where a small snack like artisanal sea salt popcorn will set you back $10 a bag.
But that’s exactly where Kai Trump went over the weekend, documenting the visit to the L.A. “It” destination to her YouTube channel.
President Donald Trump’s granddaughter titled the 18-minute-plus clip, “I Brought My Secret Service to Erewhon.”
“I checked out the viral smoothies and looked around the store to see what the hype is about,” said the caption. The golf phenom was referring to Hailey Bieber’s $21 strawberry concoction that’s packed with collagen and sea moss to make your skin glow.
The incoming University of Miami freshman also picked up a roughly $60 water bottle, along with eats like sushi, dates and buffalo cauliflower. The total bill? $233 on the nose. The native New Yorker later admits to her companion that the cost of the items is “crazy” and jokes she needs likes and subscribers to make her money back.
The blog’s comments section was a mixed, um, bag. Most followers were triggered that their taxpayer dollars were going to fund the influencer’s pricey excursion. Some were absolutely incensed, calling the post insensitive when the average person can barely afford the basics and the U.S. just entered a conflict with Iran.
Highlights:
“If tone deaf was a video.”
“This is the most out of touch video on the Internet.”
“Read the room.”
OK, so a few folks in the minority cut the young woman (the daughter of Donald Jr. and his ex Vanessa Haydon) some slack.
“That’s one place I’m definitely never going, but great video.”
“I hope she reads the comments and is capable of self-reflection.”
“To be fair, unless you experience a different environment for any part of time, you think this is all normal.”
