NEW YORK — The Brooklyn Nets have agreed to trade Cam Johnson to the Denver Nuggets for forward Michael Porter Jr. and an unprotected 2032 first-round pick, per ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The unprotected 2032 first-round pick sent by Denver to the Nets was their only available first, further bolstering Brooklyn’s wealth of future draft assets.

Johnson was in high demand league-wide after a career-best offensive season, averaging 18.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 57 games, while shooting 47.5% from the field and 39% from 3-point range. Brooklyn went 5-20 without the sharpshooting forward in the lineup last season.

The 29-year-old was originally acquired by the Nets in 2023 as part of the four-team blockbuster Kevin Durant trade. He has two years and $44 million left on his current contract.

As the 2024-25 trade deadline neared, Nets general manager Sean Marks reportedly sought two first-round picks or equivalent value for Johnson, but no deal materialized. Johnson now joins a Nuggets team aiming to reclaim championship contention.

Porter, 27, was drafted 14th overall by the Nuggets in 2018 and played a key role in their 2023 championship run, the franchise’s first. The 6-10 forward, a sharpshooter in his own right, averaged 18.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.1 assists across 77 games last season, shooting 50.4% from the field and 39.5% from deep.

Per Synergy Basketball, Porter converted 40% of catch-and-shoot 3s and 68% of shots at the rim last season. He has two years and $79.6 million left on his current contract.

The Nets have $17 million in cap space after trading Johnson for Porter and re-signing Ziaire Williams and Day’Ron Sharpe, per CapSheets.com’s Yossi Gozlan, accounting for Cam Thomas’ $12.1 million free agent hold. Waiving all non-guaranteed players could increase their cap space to $25 million.

In a related move, free agent guard D’Angelo Russell has reportedly signed a two-year, $13 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks, according to reports.
