Blues bounce back with 3-2 win over Blackhawks

ST. LOUIS — A short memory can be good sometimes.
The Blues rebounded from Thursday's loss in Nashville with a 3-2 win over the Blackhawks on Friday night. The win ended a two-game slide for the Blues, which included Thursday's 7-2 blowout loss to the Predators.
Logan Mailloux, Matt Luff and Justin Faulk scored, and Robert Thomas had two assists for the Blues. Joel Hofer avenged a previous loss to the Blackhawks by making 27 saves in Friday's win.
Wyatt Kaiser and Andre Burakovsky scored for Chicago.
Friday was the third straight time the Blues have won the second half of a back-to-back set.
The Blues continue their four-game home stand on Monday against the Predators.
A couple firsts
A pair of Blues scored their first goals in the Note, as Mailloux and Luff each found the back of the net for the first time with St. Louis.
Mailloux gave the Blues a 1-0 lead at 3:41 of the first period, cashing in off the rush with a shot from the left wing that beat Spencer Knight on the far side. Mailloux had acres of space once he received the puck at the blue line to create a better shot, and he buried his third career NHL goal (the other two were as a member of the Canadiens).
The play came just after Jake Neighbours drew a tripping penalty in the neutral zone, leading to a brief extra-attacker opportunity for the Blues before Mailloux's goal. Neighbours did, though, have a secondary assist on the play.
Luff made it 2-0 St. Louis at 11:48 of the first period when he filled the middle lane as the trailer and beat Knight clean from the slot. It was Luff's first NHL goal since April 4, 2023 as a member of the Red Wings. Luff, 28, was playing in his third game with the Blues after he was recalled from AHL affiliate Springfield.
The Blackhawks cut the Blues lead to 2-1 before the end of the first period with Wyatt Kaiser's goal with 4:10 remaining in the period. Kaiser found space at the tops of the circles for his second goal of the season.
Welcome back, Robby
Playing his first game back in St. Louis since re-joining the Blues on Wednesday, forward Robby Fabbri made his presence known.
Fabbri picked up a primary assist on Luff's first-period goal, which was his second assist in as many games for the Blues. Fabbri had an assist on Hugh McGing's goal in Nashville on Thursday night.
Fabbri also laid out Teuvo Teravainen with a hit that knocked him into the Blues bench. The hit riled up Dylan Holloway, Mathieu Joseph and Oskar Sundqvist on the bench, and got the attention of the crowd inside Enterprise Center.
The Blues signed Fabbri to a one-year, two-way contract on Wednesday morning, and inserted him into the lineup one day later against the Predators. Fabbri was originally a first-round pick of the Blues in 2014, and played 164 games for St. Louis before he was traded to Detroit in Nov. 2019.
Fabbri played 10 playoff games for the Blues when they won the Stanley Cup in 2019.
Friday night fights
For the first time this season, the Blues had multiple fights in the same game, as Mailloux and Holloway each dropped the gloves against the Blackhawks.
Mailloux fought Colton Dach at 16:27 of the first period, a bout at center ice that was a rematch from their fight during the preseason. It was Mailloux's first regular-season NHL fight, as he had five previously in the AHL.
Holloway took on Connor Murphy at 16:04 of the second period after Holloway leveled Murphy in the neutral zone with a hit along the boards. The two grabbed each other and eventually agreed to the drop the mitts for Holloway's third career NHL fight.
Holloway's first two were both against former Blues defenseman Vince Dunn.
Entering Friday night, the Blues had seven fights this season, and all of them included either Tyler Tucker (five) or Brayden Schenn (two).
