Ryan Wedding, a former Olympic snowboarder and a fixture on the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted list, has been indicted on charges including murder, drug trafficking and money laundering, the FBI announced.

The agency on Wednesday also upped their $10 million reward for Wedding to $15 million.

Attorney General Pam Bondi called the ex-snowboarder, a 43-year-old Canadian citizen, “one of the most prolific and violent drug trafficking organizers in the world.” His operation is one of the largest cocaine distributors in Canada, that also trafficked other illegal substances — including fentanyl — in collaboration with the Mexican-based Sinaloa cartel, she said.

Wedding’s drug ring is allegedly responsible for importing 60 metric tons of cocaine to the U.S. from Mexico annually, netting approximately $1 billion a year, Bondi told reporters. He was described on the FBI’s Most Wanted List as an “extremely violent criminal believed to be responsible for the murder of numerous people abroad.”

During a joint press conference with Bondi on Wednesday, FBI Director Kash Patel also announced the arrests of nearly a dozen of Wedding’s associates.

Alongside the former Olympian, there are 11 suspects so far accused of orchestrating the January 2025 murder of a witness who was shot and killed at a restaurant in Colombia. Officials said Wedding placed a bounty on the victim’s head with hopes of getting out of legal trouble.

“You do not get to be a drug kingpin and evade the law,” Patel said. “Make no mistake about it. Ryan Wedding is a modern-day iteration of Pablo Escobar. He’s a modern-day iteration of ‘El Chapo’ Guzman. This Justice Department and this FBI will work with our Canadian counterparts and government officials across the world to bring him to justice.”

Patel also called on citizens to come forward should they have any information in the case, saying: “Now is the time to speak up.”

Wedding participated in the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, competing in the parallel giant slalom snowboarding event for Canada. He finished 24th.
