KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs have officially ruled out receiver Xavier Worthy for Sunday night’s game against the New York Giants. On Saturday morning, the club announced Worthy would not travel to East Rutherford, N.J., via its official X account.

Worthy injured his shoulder on the third play of Kansas City’s season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers when he inadvertently collided with Travis Kelce on a crossing route. He returned to practice last Thursday but did not play against the Philadelphia Eagles.

He has participated in five limited workouts since returning to the practice field.

“I’m just (going to) say, (we will) see how it goes here,” head coach Andy Reid said after the final practice of the week Friday. “I’ve got to see — see how he (Worthy) did after practice here. I haven’t talked to him. I haven’t talked to (head athletic trainer) Rick (Burkholder) or him about it.”

Rookie Jalen Royals progressed to full practice participation on Thursday and Friday, per the team’s official injury report. He is trending to make his NFL debut against the Giants, having missed the first two games of the season due to knee tendinitis.

“Both (Worthy and Royals) of them are good players,” Reid said. “It would help with the other guys. I don’t want to take anything away from the other guys, either. The (receivers are) doing a nice job.”

Kansas City also elevated cornerback Kevin Knowles from the practice squad for the second straight game. He logged 10 special teams snaps in the loss to the Eagles.
