Fantasy football Week 16: Start, sit and sleepers
Published in Football
Here's a look back at Week 15's action and fantasy advice for the week ahead:
WEEK 15 RECAP
Falcons 29, Buccaneers 28: Kyle Pitts exploded for 166 yards and three touchdowns on 11 receptions in Atlanta’s come-from-behind victory at Tampa Bay. Pitts is currently playing the best football of his five-year career. He’s the overall TE1 across most fantasy formats since Week 13 with 24 receptions for 338 yards and three TDs in the last three games.
Bears 31, Browns 3: Harold Fannin Jr. played a career-high 96.5% of Cleveland’s offensive snaps and received a career-high 14 targets. He caught seven of those targets for 48 yards. Fannin has 15 receptions for 162 yards and a TD on 25 targets the last two weeks.
Ravens 24, Bengals 0: Cincinnati has been annihilated by tight ends this season, but Mark Andrews disappointed with only two receptions for 18 yards on three targets in Baltimore’s win. Isaiah Likely wasn’t targeted after producing five receptions for 95 yards on six targets on Thanksgiving night against the Bengals.
Chargers 16, Chiefs 13: Patrick Mahomes had successful surgery Monday night in Dallas to repair tears in his left ACL and LCL. The three-time Super Bowl MVP will likely miss Kansas City’s offseason program, and his availability for the start of next season is up in the air.
Bills 35, Patriots 31: TreVeyon Henderson had 148 yards on 14 carries in the loss, including TD runs of 52 and 65 yards. Jahmyr Gibbs and De’Von Achane are the only two running backs averaging more fantasy points than Henderson since Week 10.
Commanders 29, Giants 21: “Bill” took advantage of a premium matchup with Chris Rodriguez Jr. sidelined with a groin injury. Jacory Croskey-Merritt finished with 96 yards and a TD on 18 carries in a victory over the Giants. Washington’s next two matchups are against the Eagles and Cowboys at home, two of the bottom 12 teams in the league at preventing fantasy points to running backs.
Eagles 31, Raiders 0: Saquon Barkley finished with 78 yards and a TD on 22 carries in the shutout for Philadelphia. It’s been a somewhat disappointing season for Barkley, but some regression was expected after such a historic season a year ago. Still, he has at least 90 total yards or a TD in nine of his 14 games this season.
Jaguars 48, Jets 20: Trevor Lawrence went off in the first round of the fantasy playoffs. Lawrence threw for 330 yards and five TD passes with no interceptions, and ran for another 51 yards and a TD against the hapless Jets. He is the overall QB2 since Week 5 with multiple TDs in eight of the last 10 games. Lawrence also has at least 25 rushing yards or a rushing TD in six of the last seven games.
Texans 40, Cardinals 20: C.J. Stroud completed 22 of 29 passes for 260 yards and three TDs in the blowout victory, finishing as the weekly QB8. It was only the third time this season Stroud topped 250 passing yards, and the second time since Week 5 he threw multiple TD passes.
Broncos 34, Packers 26: Bo Nix completed 23 of 34 passes for 302 yards and four TDs against Green Bay. Trevor Lawrence was the only QB who outscored him in fantasy for the week. It was Nix’s second 300-yard passing effort in the last three games, and his first game with multiple TD passes since Week 9.
Rams 41, Lions 34: Puka Nacua finished with a career-high 181 yards on nine receptions in the victory over Detroit. Nacua only needs four receptions, 120 yards and a TD to set career highs for a season in all three categories. He’s currently the NFL’s all-time leader in reception yards per game with 93.7. The Vikings’ Justin Jefferson is second with 90.8.
Saints 20, Panthers 17: Jalen Coker has at least four receptions, 60 yards and a TD in two straight games with weekly finishes of WR14 and WR24 in Week’s 13 and 15, respectively.
49ers 37, Titans 24: George Kittle had eight receptions for 88 yards and a TD on nine targets against Tennessee. Only Trey McBride and Brock Bowers have more fantasy points than Kittle since Week 8. The five-time All-Pro has at least 67 yards or a TD in six of his last seven games.
Seahawks 18, Colts 16: Alec Pierce’s fantasy value evaporates with Philip Rivers under center for Indianapolis. Pierce has averaged 21.2 yards per reception over the last two seasons, but eight of Rivers’ 18 completions were dump offs to running backs. Pierce wasn’t even targeted until the second-to-last drive, where he caught his only pass of the game for 16 yards to convert a clutch third-and-7.
Vikings 34, Cowboys 26: Coach Kevin O’Connell finally simplified the offense against the Commanders in Week 14, and as a result, J.J. McCarthy has played looser. McCarthy has completed 66% of his passes for 413 yards, and five TD passes against one interception in his last two games. Minnesota’s next two matchups are against the Giants and Lions, two of the bottom five teams in the league at preventing fantasy points to quarterbacks. There’s still a long ways to go in his development, but you could do worse if you just lost Patrick Mahomes, and are in a pinch. Especially when you consider his rushing upside.
Steelers 28, Dolphins 15: Darren Waller caught seven passes for 66 yards and two touchdowns, nearly all of which came in the last 10 minutes of the game for Miami. In Waller’s six full games this season, he’s finished as a top-5 tight end in standard formats three times. In PPR, Waller also has three finishes in the top six.
Feel free to hit me up @UTEddieBrown on X, formerly known as Twitter, with any specific lineup questions I don’t cover in my posts.
Here are my best bets for Week 16:
L.A. RAMS AT SEATTLE
Obvious starters: Puka Nacua (LAR), Kyren Williams (LAR), Matthew Stafford (LAR), Jaxon Smith-Njigba (SEA).
Who to start: Colby Parkinson (LAR) is the overall TE4 across most fantasy formats since Week 10 with at least one TD in five of the last six games. It’s hard to sit either the Rams D/ST or Seahawks D/ST (both elite) despite matchups against two hyper-efficient offenses — these type of games usually turn on a big defensive play or plays. Sam Darnold (SEA) deserves streaming consideration against a defense that has allowed eight TD passes in the last three games. Rashid Shaheed (SEA) has flex appeal with at least 67 receiving yards in two straight games against a defense allowing the 10th-most fantasy points to wide receivers.
Who to sit: Blake Corum (LAR) is TD-dependent against a defense allowing the sixth-fewest fantasy points to running backs. Tutu Atwell (LAR) remains a boom-or-bust candidate against a defense allowing the fourth-fewest fantasy points to wide receivers. I’m fading Kenneth Walker III (SEA) and Zach Charbonnet (SEA) against a defense allowing the fewest fantasy points to running backs. A.J. Barner (SEA) is TD-dependent with three-or-fewer receptions in five of his last seven games.
Sleeper(s): Someone will have to step up with Davante Adams likely out (hamstring), and big-play rookie Terrance Ferguson (LAR) faces a defense allowing the sixth-most fantasy points to tight ends. Cooper Kupp (SEA) has flex appeal in deeper leagues against a defense that has allowed eight TD receptions to wide receivers in the last four games.

Who to sit: Romeo Doubs (GB) is TD-dependent with three-or-fewer targets in three of the last four games. Matthew Golden (GB) remains a boom-or-bust candidate with three-or-fewer targets in four of his last five games. The Packers D/ST just lost Micah Parsons (knee) and faces an offense allowing the seventh-fewest fantasy points to opposing defenses. Emanuel Wilson (GB) remains TD-dependent if Jacobs is active (knee/ankle). Rome Odunze (CHI) will miss a third straight game with a foot injury. Kyle Monangai (CHI) is TD-dependent against a defense allowing the eighth-fewest fantasy points to running backs. Luther Burden III (CHI) is out with an ankle injury he suffered against the Browns. The Bears D/ST faces an offense allowing the fourth-fewest fantasy points to opposing defenses.

Javonte Williams (DAL) remains an obvious starter if he’s active (neck) despite the tough matchup.
Who to sit: Oronde Gadsden II (LAC) is TD-dependent with three-or-fewer receptions in four of his last five games. Quentin Johnston (LAC) remains TD-dependent if he’s active (groin). I’m fading the Chargers D/ST against an offense allowing the fifth-fewest fantasy points to opposing defenses. Tyjae Spears (TEN) remains TD-dependent against a defense allowing the seventh-fewest fantasy points to running backs. Elic Ayomanor (TEN) remains TD-dependent with only five receptions in his last four games. I’m fading both Chig Okonkwo (TEN) and Gunnar Helm (TEN) against a defense allowing the fifth-fewest fantasy points to tight ends.

Juwan Johnson (NO) deserves streaming consideration as the overall TE14 in standard formats (TE10 in PPR) through 15 weeks, especially with Devaughn Vele out (shoulder). The Saints D/ST deserves streaming consideration at home against an offense that has produced six interceptions and allowed nine sacks in the last two games.
Who to sit: Taysom Hill (NO) remains the ultimate boom-or-bust candidate.
Sleeper(s): The Jets D/ST faces an offense allowing the sixth-most fantasy points to opposing defenses. Who to sit: Brock Purdy (SF) faces a defense that has allowed multiple TD passes only once since Week 7. Philip Rivers (IND) is a great story in real life, but not in fantasy. It’s hard to trust Michael Pittman Jr. (IND), Alec Pierce (IND) or Josh Downs (IND) with such a limited downfield pass attack. The Colts D/ST hasn’t had double-digit fantasy points since Week 5.
Sleeper: Ameer Abdullah (IND) was a big part of the Colts’ passing game in Rivers’ first start.
