Core Questions (Part 2)

All right, moving right along to continue the findings of that exploratory survey you began last time here in "Single File":

--Do you expect to have sex on the first date? (About 76 percent of women said no; 6.7 percent said yes; 13.8 percent said sometimes. As for men, 15.1 percent said yes; 75.6 percent said no; 9.3 percent said sometimes.)

--Do you think people of the other sex expect you to want to have sex on the first date? (Aside: There's so much misunderstanding circulating in the single world, and this query exemplifies it so well.) Results: Among women, 25.2 percent said yes; 27.7 percent said sometimes; 20.8 percent said no. Among men, 10.5 percent said yes; 33.7 percent said no; 25.7 percent said sometimes.

--How often have you picked up someone for the express purpose of one-night sex? (About 62 percent of women and 36 percent of men said never; 24.3 percent of women and 33.7 percent of men said once or twice. Clearly not a popular sport.)

--Do you feel more or less lonely after casual sex? (Forty-two percent said more lonely.)

--Would you rather do without sexual activity -- except perhaps masturbation, if it's OK with you -- than take part in casual or non-caring sex? (About 83 percent preferred going without sexual activity.)

--Do you need more than one sex partner to fill all your sexual needs? (About 62 percent said no.)

--Do you think you could meet someone who could fill all your sexual needs? (About 60 percent of women and 77.9 percent of men said yes.)

--Do you have other outlets (besides sexual ones) through which you express your need to love and be loved? (About 15 percent said friends or co-workers; 7.9 percent said children; 6.6 percent said work; 5.8 percent said family; 8 percent said dreams; 2.3 percent said church; 4.5 percent said physical contact; 6.8 percent said helping others; 7.4 percent said kindness and compassion; 3.9 percent said animals; 2.8 percent said creativity; 5 percent said music; 5 percent said talking; 5 percent said activity; 6.5 percent said other; 10 percent said none.

--Ideally, which would you prefer, one love for a lifetime or one at each stage of your emotional development? (About 74 percent of women and 69.8 percent of men preferred one love for a lifetime.)

--How prepared were you to handle your sex life as a single person? (About 35 percent said fairly well; 30.1 percent said poorly.)

To be continued next week. Promise.
