Patricia Arquette is "single" and loving life as a free agent.

The 57-year-old actress - who has Enzo, 36, with Paul Rossi and 22-year-old Harlow with second husband Thomas Jane - only has to think of herself now her kids are all grown up and there is no significant other in her life, and she has never been happier.

She told PEOPLE magazine: "I'm at a really exciting moment in my life.

"My kids are grown up, I'm single, I don't have to take anybody else's dreams into account as far as: where do I want to live? What do I want my house to look like? Can I go on this vacation with my girlfriend or not?"

She added: "I get to ask myself for the first time in my life -- because I was a mom at 20 -- what do I want to do?"

The True Romance star's last known relationship was with painter Eric White, whom she started dating in 2014, before calling it quits sometime before the star of the year.

The Hollywood star was married to Thomas for four years before their divorce in 2010.

Arquette was also married to fellow actor Nicolas Cage from 1995 to 2001.

On single life, she said: "It's an incredible thing when your kids are raised, and, if your relationship didn't work out and you decided I can't live with all of that, to be able to have a moment where you go, 'Who am I? What do I want?'

"I'm there, and it's exciting."

The Boyhood star feels like she has had a new lease of life since going through the menopause.

She said: "It's funny because somebody had told me that the Chinese call menopause the second spring, and it kind of is a second spring.

"The whole world's different all of a sudden, and I can have all these adventures and spend time with people I really miss that I want to spend time with."
